이 작업들은 그리드 구조를 기반으로 한 표면에 물리적인 개입을 가하며 형태를 변형시키는 과정에서 출발한다. 작가는 종이를 절단하거나, 압력을 가해 접고 구기면서 표면에 직접적인 변화를 만든다.

반복되는 격자는 일정한 질서를 유지하려는 구조로 작동하지만, 절단된 틈과 눌리고 접힌 흔적들은 그 규칙을 어긋나게 만든다. 특히 압력에 의해 형성된 작업들에서는 표면이 부드럽게 변형되며, 그리드는 늘어나거나 일그러진 상태로 남는다.

이러한 변형은 이미지를 더하는 방식이 아니라, 기존 구조를 밀고, 꺾고, 분리하는 행위를 통해 만들어진다. 그 결과 표면은 평면에 머물지 않고, 들리거나 접히며 부분적으로 공간을 형성한다.

결과로서의 형태보다, 재료에 가해진 힘과 그에 따른 변화의 흔적에 관심을 가진다. 절단과 압력이라는 서로 다른 방식의 개입은 표면 위에 각기 다른 밀도와 리듬을 남기며, 하나의 구조 안에서 다양한 상태를 공존하게 만든다.

These works begin with direct physical interventions applied to gridded surfaces. The artist cuts, presses, folds, and crumples the material, producing transformations through force rather than through additive image-making.

The grid functions as a system that suggests order and regularity, yet incisions and pressure marks disrupt this logic. In the works shaped by compression, the surface bends and stretches, leaving the grid distorted and uneven.

These transformations are not created by adding elements, but by pushing, breaking, and displacing what is already there. As a result, the surfaces no longer remain flat; they lift, fold, and partially unfold into space.

What becomes central is not the final form, but the traces of force applied to the material. Cutting and pressing operate as distinct modes of intervention, each producing different intensities and rhythms within the same structural framework.
